Gordon McLennan, M.D. FSIR, has been practicing interventional radiology us since 2000. After completing his fellowship at Indiana University, he remained on faculty as director of Interventional Radiology research for eight years where he focused on the biology of dialysis access failure and liver cancer biology. He also served as chair of the Indiana University Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee from 2005 through 2008. He moved his laboratory from Indiana to the Cleveland Clinic in 2008 where he was Professor of Radiology & Biomedical Engineering with a primary research focus on finding materials for sustained drug delivery and understanding of the tumor microenvironment associated with the hepato-cellular cancer to develop more specific targeted pharmaceuticals for the treatment of liver cancer. While at the Cleveland Clinic, he developed a multidisciplinary program with Vascular Surgery & Nephrology for the implementation of Endo AVF creation in inpatients who receive tunneled catheters as primary access. He has had a continuing commitment to the dialysis access community through his service as Chair of the Society of Interventional Radiology Genitourinary & Dialysis subspecialty council and on the board of trustees of the Renal Network, Inc., a quality assurance organization for dialysis access care, for 11 years. Over the course of his career, Dr. McLennan has received over $3,000,000 in extramural funding and has published 71 peer reviewed articles, 113 abstracts, and presented over 50 invited lectures. He has served the Interventional Radiology community as Chairman of the Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation where he helped raise $6.5 Million to support Interventional Radiology research and he was the recipient of the SIR foundation Philanthropist of the year award in 2016. and has received two awards for his service to the nephrology community through The Renal Networks, Inc. After moving to the University of Colorado, he served as Interventional Radiology Section Chief from 2000 to 2002 & then stepped down to focus on the Vice Chair for Clinical Research role where he implemented programs to encourage faculty-medical student interaction to promote research, administered the department’s pilot grant program and develop a reliable research coordinator team under new administrative leadership that has grown participation in clinical trials & developed the independent research for a radiology department of over 100 faculty. After retiring from academic medicine in December of 2023, Dr. McLennan now focusses on consulting on clinical research trials & preclinical research design. He is joining IR Centers in Denver to continue practicing Interventional Radilogy bringing his vast research & educational experience to the team.
