About This Provider
Dr. Epstein is a pathologist with fellowship training in genitourinary pathology as well as dermatopathology. During her one-year genitourinary (GU) fellowship she had the opportunity to review approximately 12,000 GU pathology cases covering the entire spectrum of urological pathology with an emphasis on prostate needle biopsy diagnosis and grading.
Dr. Epstein is the author of 14 publications in the peer-reviewed literature, 11 concerning urological pathology. Her most cited publication (187 times) is a landmark study showing that pure Gleason scores of 6 adenocarcinomas at radical prostatectomy do not have the potential to metastasize to pelvic lymph nodes, which has been one of the supporting pieces of data to support active surveillance for Gleason score 6 prostate cancer. Her second most cited article (107 times) is an in-depth review of translocation-associated renal cell carcinoma.
Immediately prior to joining Chesapeake Urology in 2016, Dr. Epstein was a staff pathologist at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, MD.
