Adolescent Circumcision
Chesapeake Urology offers circumcision for older children and adolescents. Whether circumcision is done either for cultural reasons or preference, or for medical indications including pathologic phimosis, it is a brief outpatient plastic surgical procedure performed under anesthesia.
If you would like to inquire about a circumcision for an older child or adolescent, please schedule an office consultation with Chesapeake Urology for Children.
Caring for the Circumcised Penis
Follow these steps post-circumcision:
- Apply ointment, such as A&D or Vaseline, to the penis several times a day for the first three weeks following the procedure.
- Keep the area dry.
- Watch for any signs of infection such as a green/white drainage and redness extending from the shaft of the penis up on to the stomach wall.
- Call your pediatrician or your surgeon immediately if you notice any sign of infection.
