Endourology Fellowship - Clinical Fellowship in Advanced Endourology

The University of Maryland – Chesapeake Urology Endourology Fellowship is a one-year clinical fellowship that focuses on the medical and surgical management of stone disease combined with minimally invasive upper urinary tract surgical reconstruction.

Fellowship Program Overview

A particular emphasis will be on percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in the following areas: Outpatient same day discharge PCNL, Ambulatory (ASC) PCNL; multi-tract PCNL; Single Incision Multiple Access (SIMA) PCNL; Tubeless PCNL; Totally Tubeless PCNL; and Minimally Invasive PCNL (MIP). Case volumes are expected to exceed 400 per year.

Renal access is specifically highlighted. Anatomic guided, fluoroscopic, ultrasound and endoscopically visualized access will all be covered. Ultrasound access is a developing technique; all other techniques will be used on nearly every case. An excess of 600 percutaneous “sticks” can be expected during the year of training.

Additional areas covered:

  • Retrograde endoscopic surgery (Ureteropyeloscopy case volume 150).
  • Percutaneous and endoscopic management of upper tract urothelial cancer.
  • Endoscopic management of stricture disease.
  • Metabolic workup and management of urolithiasis, aimed at prevention.

Opportunities for robotic assisted laparoscopic (RAL) training in upper tract reconstruction and benign disease will also be offered, including RAL Pyeloplasty, Ureteroureterostomy, Ureteroneocystotomy, Renal Cyst Decortication, heminephrectomy, nephrectomy.
