Dr. McDowell is a leader in robotic and laparoscopic surgeries, focusing on kidney, prostate, ureteral, adrenal, and testicular cancers. His expertise includes the treatment of conditions such as BPH, kidney stones, and reconstruction of the upper genitourinary tract.
Dr. McDowell received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and graduated Summa Cum Laude from East Stroudsburg University in 2008. He received his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015, where he became a member of the Pathology Honor Society for outstanding achievement in the longitudinal Pathology course, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
He completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston at the Texas Medical Center – the largest medical center in the world. During his Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Oncology at the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA, Dr. McDowell worked with world-renowned robotic surgeon James Porter, MD. Dr. Porter and Dr. McDowell completed the first urologic surgery and first radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer with the Da Vinci SP robot in the state of Washington, performing the surgeries through a singular three-inch incision in the abdomen.
Various publications have printed Dr. McDowell’s work, and he has presented on numerous topics in the field of urology. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the Endourological Society, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. McDowell understands that being diagnosed with cancer is an emotionally challenging experience for both patients and their families. He looks forward to helping each patient and family fully understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and addressing their concerns with expertise and compassion. His distinctive ability to communicate complex medical conditions in simple yet thorough terms allow his patients to feel comfortable as they confront surgery, after-care, and ongoing treatment.
