The Rezum System
Rezūm™ Water Vapor Therapy is a safe, effective, office-based treatment for enlarged prostate/BPH. The procedure uses thermal energy in water vapor to reduce and remove obstructive tissue surrounding the prostate. The minimally invasive Rezūm procedure gives men another treatment alternative that minimizes certain unwanted side effects (including erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence) that can result from medication therapy or other procedures that are more invasive.
The number of water vapor treatments varies depending on the size of the prostate. The procedure is done during one appointment. The images above are intended to show how the procedure works, not to provide an exact representation of patient results.
How the Procedure Works
Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy uses the natural energy stored in water vapor (steam). Clinical studies show a positive safety profile with the ability to relieve symptoms associated with BPH. During each 9-second treatment, sterile water vapor is released throughout the targeted prostate tissue. When the steam turns back into water, all the stored energy is released, causing the cells to die. Over time, your body’s natural healing response removes the dead cells, shrinking the prostate. With the extra tissue removed, the urethra opens, reducing BPH symptoms. Most patients begin to experience symptom relief in as soon as two weeks, and maximum benefit may occur within three months.
Benefits of The Rezūm System
Rezūm is proven to significantly improve BPH symptoms including urinary frequency, urgency, weak stream, straining to urinate, and nocturia (frequent nighttime urination), while preserving erectile function and urinary continence.
Patients choose this minimally invasive treatment because:
- The procedure takes less than 30 minutes to complete and can be done awake with local anesthesia or under light sedation.
- Rezūm is performed as an outpatient procedure in your urologist’s office or in an ambulatory surgery center.
- The treatment requires no general anesthesia as is used in laser surgery or transurethral resection.
- Rezūm is covered by most insurance plans.
